On the River Clyde 26/05/09
claim'); a cruise liner at the unattractive Greenock 'Container base' (I
suppose that all container bases are not too bonny, unless you like
multi-coloured cubes and oblongs!).
The lovely 'tweeting' black guillemots.
Early evening, a freighter going home or to some 'other place 'scrappy'
(Eastern Europe maybe..) I'd say with metal scrap, or other rich Glasgow
detritus (err, 'recyclable material?) on board, coming down past the quarry
and then Dumbarton Rock.

Greenock east esplanade 21/05/09
and was pushing outwards, into the wind .
The buoys are pretty big when you get closer to them on shore, so I guess
the less head lift the better..in and out of the water over a low side,
keeping them low to avoid a heavy cant.

Greenock west esplanade 20/05/09
flashes of rich custard yellow on the hill pasture.
Herring gulls and the wonderful eider ducks....the males cavorting to get
the attention of the sack-cloth, dowdy female, who nevertheless has
attractive charms to encourage many would-be suitors!

Greenock West esplanade 13th May 09 again
Warrior tug boat. The wind was cool and brisk from the east and white
topping the water. The gulls in their glory on the eddies and the jakey with
feathers lifted whilst on the perch at the esplanade rail.
Along came the purposeful Warrior, driving into the swell and creating some
nice bow wave spray.
Another great 15 minutes. Fresh air and re-invigorated!

Greenock west esplanade 12/05/09
Just some fun for 10 minutes, though I need to try harder for the quality.
They took the draught downwind from the north-easterly, and then turned to
come gliding back up the airflows bouncing up off the esplanade wall. No
wonder man has wanted 'to do that'....!

Greenock east esplanade 7th May 09
squalls blowing in...really a very poor start to the month.
I arrived at the prom just after the blue boat was headed along the front,
up-river; I didn't get the name, but it has a big reel on the stern so it
might be a survey ship (I may well have covered this better in an earlier
blog?).
Not far behind is the wee fisher boat, 'Guide Me', and in some respects it
is the beacon, 'guiding' it's attendant herring gulls, swirling and swooping
on the off-chance of something to grab. I'm presuming the fishy reek is more
than enough of a magnet...and suppose that they'll follow on right until she
ties up, in case there's some casting of scraps over the side ......
Down at Custom House Quay is the cruiser Lord Glen ......a bit of style on
the estuary without the colossal size of the Grand Princess.
A cold, blustery and damp 20 minutes but there's life on the water!
