Pitlochry is a really nice hot spot tourist stop over - no mater what time
of year generally a fair few things going on - theatre, fish ladder, lots of
decent shops and restaurants, cafes, pubs and hotels, B&Bs...Good centre for
outdoor stuff too - walking, fishing, cycling, etc.
Plenty of water meant the Soldier's Leap at Killiecrankie was quite
intimidating... we have thought for a long time..''how could someone do
that?''...but then again if you are a 'feartie Redcoat' being chased by a
bunch of wild, revenge-crazed Jacobite troops with cold jaggy things ready
to do for you, it maybe is not too surprising what an athletic pursuant
might do to avoid the pain...18 feet of raging chasm no barrier!

The big hotel is in Birnam...it's massive and appears to be just not viable
at all....seems to be available for small change, if you had the monies to
cover the ''costs'' and the intimidating thought of doing it up...?! Birnam
is now passed by with the A9, and it's flying northwards traffic, just 100
metres away. Very little of which pulls in to savour the delights of the
Beatrix Potter museum or the typical Victorian-style village.
The Atholl Memorial Fountain and quaint square in Dunkeld is worth a quick
coffee/ luncheon stop on a good day. The local countryside is lovely, mixed
and ancient woodlands, and brilliant walking and cycling territory.
