QUEEN concert SECC 11/10/08
Hi Folks, this was a BRILLIANT NIGHT down at the SECC in Glasgow, at the regenerated Clydeside. Sorry my pictures (only a few of very many snapped, but I'm just not good enough!) don't truly capture the essence....
I'm sure that Brian May, Roger Taylor, Paul Rodgers (lead vocal) and the backing boys (no mentions?), and John Deacon not involved....were delighted with the rapturous Glasgow audience (let's face it, where in this world would there not be such a welcome..?).
I am sure that there'd be 5-6,000 in the audience and the whole performance was brilliant, including the few and well chosen deferences to Freddie, the SUPERSTAR.
The lead vocals by Paul R were really excellent and they varied well from 'trad Queen' to some new stuff and a few of Paul's previous group performances.
The instrumentals by May and Taylor were exquisite and thoroughly well backed up by the other two energetic guitarists.
The stage crew were amazingly professional and carried off their transition duties to perfection, as did the lighting engineers, and the visuals by my poor photos were also truly impacting and reflected the moods and tunes perfectly.
There were the sympathetic and ephemeral captions of Freddie Mercury at his most flamboyant, and also his twilight performances which tugged the hearts of us all....the brilliance of the unique artist and the melancholy of the fallen star under the last few torn and reflective performances...how inspiring and how pitifully apt...the likes of whom is never to be seen again.
Brian may asked us to consider the lingering song of Freddie's as the cherished memories of 'Mums' (though nobody knew 'who' he was really referring to...)...... no doubting the power of true and deep influence, and I'm certain he reflected on his knowledge of how Freddie thought of his own, and we all the same....?
Luckily we lived the moments way back when the likes of 'Fat Bottomed Girls', 'Bohemian Rhapsody', 'Ride my Bicycle', 'Radio Gaga', 'We are the Champions', 'I want to break Free' were all in our times....so, so lucky to see a new dawn of classically competent and free-ranging 'pop'. It wasn't 'bubble gum' pop, but iconic brilliance at work, that'll always set a benchmark, as classically good things do.
The death knell of Freddie lingers like a deep cut wound and tragedy that says ''why'', ''why Freddie?''
It was a pleasure to be there.
Regards, Denis. (DadB XXX)
