This was spotted about 8 pm or so, and I was intrigued to see that they were spilling the dredgings out so close to shore and also just on the fringe of the navigation channel.
My theory would be that they have got very limited places to move matter about in terms of sea ecology and given this will be the main course of tidal racing, the slurry will 'be naturally moved' to where the sea and river will deal with it. The bulk of dredging seems to be taking place at Dumbarton Rock and I wonder if in the river there's also some unseen rock formation which causes a still spot, where the river sediments are laid down in slack moving water..? The rock is volcanic as are all the surrounding hills (Kilpatricks, quarry, etc) so a 'barrier across some of the river' plain would not be surprising - river charts will show I'm sure...
